Two Old Orange Poems

          More Letters From Paradise
            Two Old Orange Poems
               Orange Number One
           Oranges were important
              you received one
          maybe two at Christmas
            if you were lucky
          Once coming back from
             aunt Grace's
             on the trolly
           a paper bag split
       sending an orange colored
              avalanche
         in all directions
         of Chicago's Loop
         Motormen stopped
            trollys
        while we chased
            oranges

      Orange Number Two
        Christmas is
      for my children
    who with great effort
       blow up balloons
        then rub them
        in their hair
       and attach them
     to living room walls
    many colored paper chains
     hang across doorways
    remember to duck under
      popcorn strung
    and placed on the tree
    front door bristles with
       Christmas cards
    then on Christmas morning
      large lumpy stockings
        must be explored
        always at the toe
           an orange

            Aloha
            Grant

  1. Do people still do oranges? I don't know. Maybe we should have Hanukhah stockings along with the Hanukkah bush this year!
