Some Early Poems

    More Letters From Paradise
       Some Early Poems
The following poem was written in honor of two of my students, Vince LaRocca, and Bob Perry, who were killed in Vietnam.
            Higher Math
         One 22 year old boy
          multiplied by 365
       gives you the total days
            then subtract
             one landmine
       and the answer is always
               NOTHING

               Migrant
He was just a little fellow
      about three feet high
     hair  black and straight
        dark eyes shining
holding a dripping ice cream bar
     climbing over the tailgate
of the truck with the Texas plate
        all he knows so far
        sweet Spanish words
       dust between his toes
       and beans in his belly

           Aloha
           Grant
