A Space Encounter

A Space Encounter

Tonto and I had seen, and others as well, satellites putt-putt-putting across the night sky. But last night was different. The International Space Station was going to go right across Oahu, and could be seen for about five minutes by us.
And so our "Tribe" of friends gathered on our lanai, and awaited its arrival. We were well-armed with glasses of Scotch, left-over spice birthday cake, and a couple packages of Manju. These are Japanese cookies filled with either coconut or apple.
Ray counted out the time remaining, while Ann, Connie, and Tonto fooled around with the three pairs of field glasses.
And suddenly there it was, flashing red and white lights as it crossed over the horizon, to another part of our planet. We waved to them, but they didn't wave back.
And so the great event ended, as did the left-over cake, some of the Manju, and all of the Scotch. There was nothing left for us to do. So we refilled our glasses, discussed the happy event, and then everyone took to their beds.
Aloha
Grant
